Nancy

Porcelain veneers

Nancy first came to us in the month of February of 2006 after hearing about us on the radio. Nancy felt that she wanted to make an investment in her smile and help herself look as young on the outside as she felt on the inside. After meeting with Nancy, she told me that she was unhappy with the way her teeth were starting to chip, the way they were starting to move out of alignment and the way that they still looked kind of dull even after she went through a whitening treatment. We decided together that in order to accomplish all of her treatment goals that we would need to place porcelain veneers on all of her top teeth and on eight of her bottom teeth.

Four weeks later, Nancy was in my office for our final visit together to have her new smile bonded in place. What an incredible difference! Nancy is a perfect example of how some patients start with their teeth but then find motivation to make changes in other areas of their life as a result of their new found confidence. She really looks great and I love to catch up with her when we see her back in the office for her routine cleaning appointments.

Tamber

Cosmetic Patient

Tamber came to my office in December of 2004 also after hearing about us on the radio. Tamber was 27 years old at the time and was frustrated about how she never felt confident about smiling. Upon our first consultations appointment, she pointed out how the severe misalignment of her front teeth made her feel uncomfortable ever showing her teeth at all. Another concern that Tamber had was that she was dead set against moving her teeth with any orthodontic tooth movement of any kind. There was no way that she was going to have braces. I discussed with Tamber that we would need to veneer at least nine of her top front teeth and at that there were significant risks of potentially needing to perform root canals on three of her front teeth if we made the necessary corrections to the alignment just by veneering the teeth. She was still determined to avoid braces, so she consented to the risks and we began.

When we had the appointment to shape Tamber’s teeth, we were fortunate in that only one of the three teeth that I thought where at risk ended up needing a root canal. When we removed the forms I used to make the temporary veneers and revealed her new smile for the first time, it took my breath away. It made quite an impact on her as well. The next week when she returned for a quick follow up visit, I was amazed at how different her entire face looked. It was almost as though the rest of her face changed more than her smile, and all just because of how different she felt about the way her teeth looked. Two weeks later when she returned for the final appointment it was thrilling to bond the permanent veneers in place knowing that she would never have to feel self conscious about her smile again. I feel very fortunate to have had a chance to help.

Mike M

Smile Makover

Mike M. has been a patient and friend for years. When we very first met he started talking to me about wanting to correct the alignment and the “vampire” look that he saw in his front teeth. It took him three years to convince his wife that improving his smile was something that was really important to him. Before she agreed to let him proceed with the treatment, he finally convinced her when he challenged her to find a single photograph of him showing his teeth when he was smiling. When she looked for three days and wasn’t able to find a single picture, she knew that this was much more important to Mike than she had realized.

We corrected Mike’s smile by placing 8 porcelain veneers over his top front 8 teeth. It made a huge difference for him right away. We usually don’t see very men get tears in their eyes when they see their new smile for the first time, but Mike was the exception here. The biggest problem that his wife has now is that she complains about how he never stops smiling. She even took the time to call me up one day just to tell me how I have created a monster. I guess there are worse things that I could be guilty of.

Suzie

Smile Makeover

Suzie is a very interesting case. The reason that she is so interesting is that if you look at her before pictures, you will notice that she used to have very short teeth. This was caused by about twenty years worth of a night time clenching and grinding habit that wore off more than 35% of the length of her natural teeth. One of the most important considerations we take when we are planning a case is how it will function once the veneers are bonded in place. (It is very easy to make veneers look good on the day that they are bonded to the teeth, it is much more of a challenge to design them in a way that makes them look brand new for years to come and don’t get broken apart by unbalanced chewing forces.) In planning for her case, we went through a process called “Tensing” which allows us to identify the correct functional position for the teeth to fit together. When we completed the process, I found that her back left teeth were more severely worn than were her back right teeth. By accounting for this, we were able to re-build her mouth to the position that it was before the damage was done by the grinding, and re-establish the proper aesthetics for her smile.

In the end, we placed porcelain veneers on all of her top teeth. In addition to giving Suzie an incredible smile, we also helped her finally find relief from headaches that had been plaguing her for years. Who knew that improving your smile could do so much?
